This is our story. This coming of age book illustrates the strength it takes to stay and the strength it takes to spread our wings. Together, main characters, Cici and Kadee, experience growing pains and excitement as they look forward to life’s next adventure.
There are times when life and circumstance tell us to rest and remain grounded. It’s usually a time of hard work and reflection. These chapters of our lives can be rewarding, as they give space for overdue healing and personal development.
Sometimes, we detour as we crave change. We spread our wings, take risks and embrace our next adventure. Often short-lived, these seasons are part of personal growth as we learn more about ourselves and our strengths.
Every page of this book is delicately illustrated as a piece of fine art. During character development, the artist, Amy Winters, experimented with mixed media including watercolor, pen and ink, and even wire, which lends to an original presentation and the opportunity for quality collateral to the book. Iterated through consistent themes, such as the tree and each character’s stage in life, landscape and the passing of time is communicated through Amy’s artistic vision.
Because in life... sometimes you’re the dairy cow and sometimes you are the butterfly.
Amy & Melissa
author and illustrator
Amy and Melissa have been friends for years. Working for a small creative agency in Granbury, Texas for over 5 years, they wanted to do a project together with heart and love. Melissa came into the office one day with the story of CiCi and Kadee and after making everyone cry with its beautiful words they knew they had to put the story to pages. Since the start of the project, Amy and Melissa both have new babies and juggle life in a very different way than when they started this journey. But, the message is still very true and speaks to the heart of the families they love and the freedom and life of an artist.
